mauq structure

MAUQ is an instrument with an overall score to evaluate the adherence behavior, and four components scores that represent four different beliefs/attitudes components influencing medication adherence behavior: PAM: positive attitudes towards health care and medication (items 3, 5, 7, 35); LD: lack of discipline (items 23, 24, 26, 36); ATM: aversion towards medication (items 9, 13, 14, 16); ACHP: active coping with health problems (items 20, 21, 22, 39).

mauq scoring

The 16 items of the MAUQ are presented in a 7-point Likert scale. In the two positive attitude components (i.e., PAM and ACHP) the scale ranges from 1= “Completely disagree” to 7= “Completely Agree”. While in the two negative attitude components (i.e., LD and ATM) the scale ranges from 1= “Completely Agree” to 7= “Completely disagree”.

All the studies reporting MAUQ results must, at least, provide: a) mean and standard deviation of the MAUQ overall score, b) means and standard deviations of the scores of the four MAUQ components (i.e., PAM: positive attitudes towards health care and medication; LD: lack of discipline; ATM: aversion towards medication; ACHP: active coping with health problems); c) a table with the response frequencies of each MAUQ item (can be in appendix).
