Medication Adherence Universal Questionnaire

What is mauq?

MAUQ stands for Medication Adherence Universal Questionnaire. MAUQ is the result of a collaborative effort, initiated by the University of Coimbra and University of Porto, to create an instrument to evaluate, not only medication adherence behaviors, but also the attitudinal components that influence patient’s medication adherence behaviors.

Aims and use of mauq

Based on open science principles, MAUQ aims to be a gold-standard instrument to assess medication adherence, freely available (once validated to a language or language variation). MAUQ is copyrighted to avoid derivatives and unsolicited variations with the intention to ensure consistency among the different language versions. After validation, cross-culturally adapted versions are freely available to any researcher or practitioner under fair use conditions, who accepts the following two requirements:

  • No changes or modifications to the text or the scoring system will be done to the text available in this website for that adapted version,
  • And references to the original developing article and the language variation validating article (when applies) should be included in any publication (i.e., articles or conference communications).

This text should serve as proof of instrument free availability to any Ethics Committee or Research Board.
